Page 2 - Moths of Northern New Jersey Although all of the moths on this page were photographed in northern NJ, most of these moths' range can be found in the northeastern United States (US / USA).
The identification photos are organized by family. Photos start lower on page.
This page is constantly being updated with live moth photos. The majority of NEW moth species that will be added will be spring through fall. Thank you for your patience, and if we don't have a specific species, check back later.
Please contact Joe Garris, Sr. with any questions that you may have; about moths only please; at JoeGarrisSr@stillwaterwoods.net.

The scale of the moth silhouettes is relative, not exact. The sizes may vary from 1/4" to 6" accross the wingspans.
Special thanks go to Dr. Dale Schweitzer and Tony McBride who have tolerated my emailed images and have have been my usual immediate contacts with many of my questions about moths and moth identification. To Bill Oehlke, whose website images have been a wonderful reference source for my attempts at catocala identification. And, last but not least to Bob Patterson of Moth Photographers Group. Without Bob's gift of a copy of Charles V. Covell Jr.'s "A Field Guide to Moths of Eastern North America", and without the MPG photos I'd have never been able to sort through all of the many species of NJ moths. Thank You Gentlemen!
